The Transformers

So, in order to keep this thing somewhat updated, and to finally premiering this section for this version of the blog, we give you a little taste on the most recent developement of one of the most timeless franchises in the world of animated series: The Transformers.

The Transfomers originally started back in the eighties, spawning from a couple of japanese toy-lines, namely the Go-Bots and Diaclone, both featuring robots that could transform in all sort of stuff, from cars to hand-held guns.

So, around 1983, Hasbro made a deal with Takara (the japanese company which produced the afore-mentioned toy-lines) and created the Transformers toy-line, borrowing from both Go-Bots and Diaclone. Then, in 1984, in association with Marvel, a brand-new animated series began airing in the USA: the original Transformers series, now called The Transformers, Generation One (or G1, for short).

So, after numberless reinventions of the brand (some more successful than others) and 27 years later, this franchise is still alive and kicking, with the recent renewal in the media following the live-action movies. Now, without further addo, here is the newest stuff from this brand.

Transformers: Prime

This series is the latest in the most recent continuity in the Transformers multiverse, which started in 2010 with the Exodus comic and the War for Cybertron video-game (though there are certainly some serious continuity discrepancies). This cartoon is completely rendered in 3D CGI animation, with little touches of cell-animation melded in.

The series is set on the planet Earth, where the Autobots are preparing for the imminent return of Megatron, leader of the "evil" Decepticons. Megatron, wandering around in Space, stumbled upon something called "Dark Energon", the life essence of Unicron, the Destroyer, a substance capable of bringing robots back from the dead. As expected, Megs plans to use it to create an army of undead, savage transformers (zombie-robots, what else could you ask for?). Oh, there's also the typical annoying human companions which, as usual, are not really worth mentioning.

The series' pilot, 5-parts episode began airing in November 26th in the USA, and the following first season is scheduled to premiére in February, 2011. In the meantime, we give you the first part of the first chapter of the pilot episode (in YouTube, you can find the rest of the pilot series in the "related videos" section).

Transformers: The Dark of the Moon

And here we have the third release in the live-action movie series. This is a follow-up to 2009's Revenge of the Fallen. Now, we know the major criticism the movies often get, and we agree with it. Of course, the "Bayformers" movies lack plot, sentiments, seriousness, character developement... But they still have giant transforming robots kicking each other's ass, big explosions, and giant transforming robots kicking-- well, you get the point.

So, details for The Dark of the Moon: well, there's actually few confirmed information, given Bay's mis-infomation campaign, however, we know Shockwave is going to be the new main "bad dude", and that the annoying Autobot Twins are gone for good. We would give you more details, but they may end up being just false leads, so we'll stop there.

Now, here is the recently released official trailer for the movie, scheduled for premiére in July 1st, 2011:
